KEYNOTE (Leadership): Stealth Startup -- Rapid Decisions, Rapid Deployment: Transforming Delivery Through Empowerment
Wednesday May 28, 2025 11:00am - 11:25am PDT
Vilas Veeraraghavan, Stealth startup, Technical Leader

Platform teams tend to start out being lean but tend to slowly lose agility as they grow and expand their scope. This typically results in delayed rollouts of tools and other enablement needs that Dev teams have. However, these delays in decision making in critical tooling development within DevEx or Platform teams results in developer frustration and slows down delivery to the end customer (which impacts revenue). In my past life as a leader of Dev Platforms, I have experienced this and developed some techniques to prevent this slowdown over time. I have seen how distributing the decision making using engineering rigor allows DevEx/Platform teams to empower themselves and drive outcomes. In this talk, I will share the framework I have honed over years of leadership at Comcast, Netflix, Walmart and Bill with the audience. The framework relies on 4 key pillars - Always lead with data/reasoning, Know the business needs, Own and invest in your decisions, Empathize with the developer.

This talk will equip engineering leaders with a tool to create effective delivery enablement within their engineering organizations.

INVITE ONLY -- DevMarketing @ DeveloperWeek Leadership 2025
Thursday May 29, 2025 9:30am - 12:00pm PDT
9:00 AM - 9:30 AM Welcome + Networking (Breakfast)

9:30 AM - 10:20 AM - Panel 1: Be Where the Developers Are
Developers often rely on one another to help evaluate new technologies, dev tooling, and programming ideas. How can marketing teams engage in these conversations without being perceived as invading their space? Our panelists will discuss their tactics for finding where developers share their knowledge and their tactics for supporting and informing these conversations.

1. Michael Ortega, Head of Marketing @ Predibase
2. Yolande Poirier, Senior Manager, Developer Community @ Neo4j
3. Bo English-Wiczling, Sr. Director, Head of DB Developer Relations @ Oracle

4. Katie Wasilenko Miller, Developer Marketing Advisor
Moderator: Ziwei Chen, Senior Developer Marketing Strategist @ Catchy

10:20 AM - 10:30 AM - Break

10:30 AM - 11:20 AM - Panel 2: Building a Developer Community
We often speak of the “Developer community” as if it’s a homogenous group of technical experts. In reality, it’s a collection of various communities consisting of unique individuals with differing experiences and skillsets - some of whom never cross paths with one another. Dev marketing teams dream of tapping into these communities by building a subset of developers devoted to their products and services, but often struggle to break through. Our panelists will explore how they have encouraged community among their developer audiences, the benefits it has brought for their organization, and the support these communities provide to the technical practitioners who belong to and engage deeply with them.
1. Nigel Hughey, Developer Advocate @ Zoom
2, Pat Patterson, Chief Technical Evangelist @ BackBlaze
3. Stephen Chin, VP of Developer Relations @ Neo4j
4. Anthony Lusardi, Developer Relations Strategy @ Captivate.dev

AI dominates every technical conversation. As models improve, many technical teams are adopting AI as a coding assistant and, in some limited cases, as replacements for full time developers and technical staff. Vibe coding is replacing old fashioned GUI-style drag and drop low/no code systems. AI/ML models are improving in their ability to identify network anomalies, with some models capable of responding without human assistance. Chat interfaces make it easier for business executives to ask questions of their complex data, potentially reducing the need for on-staff analysts.

In this panel, we'll talk with industry leaders about their plans to integrate AI into their workflows and how they believe these decisions will impact their hiring strategies throughout 2025-2026.

Thursday June 5, 2025 9:30am - 9:55am PDT
Limor Mekaiten, Titan, Software engineering team leader

As engineering managers, we constantly debug systems and optimize processes—but what about the cognitive "bugs" in our own minds? This talk explores common cognitive biases, how they subtly influence our perceptions and decisions, and why understanding them is critical to better leadership.

You'll gain actionable strategies to uncover these mental shortcuts, manage team dynamics with fairness, and build a culture of empathy and clarity. By acknowledging and mitigating cognitive biases, we can improve team performance, strengthen trust, and inspire the humans behind the code.

[Virtual] KEYNOTE (Leadership): Shipyard -- How DevEx Drives DORA Metrics: Why Developer Happiness Directly Impacts Software Delivery
Thursday June 5, 2025 10:00am - 10:25am PDT
Benjie De Groot, Shipyard, Co-founder and CEO

DORA Metrics measure performance holistically, so that top scorers are those who put people and process first, and do it smartly. This means that prioritizing good DevEx eventually converts to improved DORA Metrics.

DevEx and DORA have a cause and effect type of relationship: the core components of DevEx (unblocking developers, utilizing self-service infrastructure) are all direct drivers of DORA. The 2024 DORA Report urges Platform to study the developer workflow so they can better solve for areas of friction. The most successful Platform teams use DevEx as their North Star for measuring productivity, and the subsequent DORA impact isn’t coincidental. Benjie will discuss how you can manage Platform to enable good DevEx, and what the corresponding DORA outcomes should be.

[Virtual Exclusive] PRO Session: Designing Architecture Flow
Thursday June 5, 2025 11:00am - 11:25am PDT
Ivan Padabed, PandaDoc, Director of Platform Architecture

In this session, we’ll explore the essential role of the architect as an accountable decision-maker and how they can optimize their workflow to ensure the right decisions are made at the right time. We’ll discuss why relying solely on an architect’s mental capacity is a bottleneck, how decision-making infrastructure tailored to organizational specifics enables speed and quality, and what best practices can help architects scale their effectiveness in high-growth environments.

Drawing from years of experience building and refining architectural decision-making pipelines in fast-paced, high-tech organizations, the speaker will share practical insights on:
• Structuring decision flows to ensure the right information is available at the right moment.
• Creating a collaborative environment where architectural decisions are well-informed and transparent.
• Designing a decision-making infrastructure that fosters consistency, speed, and quality.
• Avoiding common pitfalls that lead to decision paralysis, misalignment, and bottlenecks.

This session is for architects, engineering leaders, and decision-makers looking to improve architectural effectiveness and scale decision-making without sacrificing quality or agility. Join us to rethink how architecture flows in your organization.
